REPORT: Chicago Bears Cut Ties With Defensive Lineman
Although some of the Illini were not selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, they still managed to sign with NFL teams in hopes of impressing the coaching staff.
John Paddock was among those who didn’t make it through roster cuts this weekend. He was part of the Atlanta Falcons’ roster, but due to the abundance of talent at the quarterback position, they had to let him go.
Unfortunately, Paddock wasn’t the only one to lose his spot this weekend. Former Illinois defensive lineman Keith Randolph Jr. faced a similar situation, as he was waived by the Chicago Bears on Saturday.
Chicago has strong depth on the defensive line. Their starting front four of Montez Sweat, Andrew Billings, Gervon Dexter Sr., and DeMarcus Walker are a formidable group, and the Bears also have an up-and-coming defensive end in Austin Booker.
Keith Randolph Jr. isn’t with the Chicago Bears anymore, but his career with the Illinois football team will never be forgotten
It’s always tough to see a former Illini player get waived. I want as many of them to succeed as possible because it not only improves their lives but also reflects well on the program.
While Randolph was waived by the Bears, there’s still a chance he could catch on with another team. But even if he moves on to a different career, we shouldn’t forget the impact he had on the Illini.
Randolph was part of an impressive defensive line at Champaign. He recorded 10 sacks over his final three seasons and made 144 tackles during that time.
This isn’t the end of the road for Randolph, but I was hoping he could stay a bit longer with my favorite NFL team. Nonetheless, the future remains bright for this former Illinois football defensive line standout.
