DONE DEAL: Alabama 5-star DB transfer done
Alabama’s secondary might experience some growing pains, but it is expected to become a strength. Kane Wommack has been impressed with the freshmen cornerbacks and the transfers joining the Crimson Tide. Wommack, who feels confident in his role as a defensive play caller, particularly values the playmakers in the group.
He highlights Malachi Moore, a fifth-year senior and team captain, as an exceptional communicator in the secondary. Moore, the leader of the defense, now has additional support from Keon Sabb, a transfer from the University of Michigan with national championship experience.
Sabb, who played a key role in Michigan’s 2023 College Football Playoff national title, quickly adapted to Alabama’s defense during spring practice and has been excelling ever since. Wommack regards Sabb’s communication skills as being on par with Moore’s, which is significant praise.
Wommack commended Sabb, saying, “He [Keon Sabb] has been phenomenal… His retention of our defense and now he’s starting to play with anticipation. He is communicating at a high level. If you can keep up with Malachi Moore, I think that’s a great job.”
Sabb not only strengthens Alabama’s secondary but also relieves pressure on the linebackers. Redshirt junior Deontae Lawson expressed his confidence in Moore and Sabb, noting that he trusts them completely to make the calls on the field.
Lawson added, “Keon Sabb is a veteran… He has been on a championship team, and he knows what it takes. So he is bringing everything he knows, adapting with us, and it has been great to have him.”
Sabb’s presence provides Coach Wommack with another leader on the field, and Alabama fans are eager to see the elite defense that Sabb looks to help deliver.
