The 2024 regular season is scheduled to begin next week. After months of various purchases to prepare the club ready to go this autumn, the time has finally come.

Cutdown day in the NFL happened on August 27, and clubs had to reduce their roster to 53 men by 4 p.m. ET. The Packers made a few moves, including releasing Sean Clifford, but that wasn’t the greatest news in Wisconsin.

Packers News: RUNNIng Back  Was Placed on IR

Per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Packers are placing running back  on injured reserve, ruling him out for the entire 2024 season. The specifics of his injury haven’t been disclosed yet, but this development is a significant setback for Green Bay’s backfield.

The timing is far from ideal for the Packers, as rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd will also begin the season on injured reserve. Lloyd is expected to miss at least the first four games of the regular season due to a hamstring injury, which follows a hip issue that sidelined him earlier this summer.

Dillon, who re-signed with the Packers this offseason, was anticipated to be a key part of their running back rotation in 2024.

To bolster their backfield, Green Bay signed Josh Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million contract in March, expecting him to take on the primary role. However, with Dillon sidelined, Jacobs’ workload is set to increase even more.

Dillon was known for his physical, bruising running style that could wear down defenses over the course of a game. Now, the Packers will need to find a suitable alternative until Lloyd is healthy enough to return.
