The Texas Longhorns are rapidly becoming a top destination for elite wide receivers, with a second five-star recruit joining the team on Friday morning. Jamie Ffrench, a standout from Florida, committed to Texas during a live announcement on the 247Sports YouTube channel, choosing the Longhorns over LSU, Miami, and Tennessee.

“It’s all about family there,” Ffrench shared with On3. “Texas is very family-oriented, and they connected with my family even more than with me. That meant a lot and showed me a lot. My bond with the staff and fellow commits like Kaliq Lockett and KJ Lacey is unmatched. The chemistry with the guys at Texas is second to none for me.”

For the second year in a row, Chris Jackson and Steve Sarkisian have secured a five-star wide receiver, with Ffrench joining Ryan Wingo from last year’s class and Kaliq Lockett from this year’s.

Ffrench is one of the most sought-after wide receivers in the country, ranking No. 4 at his position and No. 19 overall according to the 247Sports composite. The hiring of Chris Jackson, following Brennan Marion’s departure, has proven to be a strategic move, especially with Texas having three wide receivers drafted into the NFL last year.

After a solid sophomore season, the 6’1”, 185-pound wideout made a major impact as a junior, racking up over 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns in a state runner-up season. He’s also a two-sport athlete, competing on the track team for Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, FL.

Ffrench, a consensus five-star prospect, was active in camps and unofficial visits two years ago. He attended a Junior Day at Alabama and made another unofficial visit in 2023, which led to a commitment to the Crimson Tide in July. However, he reopened his recruitment two days after Nick Saban retired.

Texas officially entered the race for Ffrench when wide receivers coach Chris Jackson extended an offer in late January. Ffrench responded with multiple visits to Texas, including an official visit in June.

According to Ffrench, Texas surged into the lead over the summer and maintained their position heading into his announcement.

In most years, Ffrench would be the crown jewel of a recruiting class, but August has been particularly fruitful for Texas. The Longhorns began the month by adding Lockett, ranked No. 18 overall, and recently brought in safety Jonah Williams, ranked No. 10 overall.

With Ffrench’s commitment, Texas now has three consensus five-star recruits, trailing only Alabama and Ohio State for the most in this recruiting cycle. Texas remains close to breaking into the top five, just fractions of a point behind Tennessee for the No. 6 spot.

Analysis (by Daniel Seahorn):

When watching Ffrench on tape, it’s clear that he’s one of the top wide receivers in the 2025 class. His junior season in 2023 was a breakout year, with Ffrench recording 62 catches for 1,247 yards and 14 touchdowns. Standing at 6’1” and 185 pounds, he has a long, wiry frame that should allow him to add muscle as he transitions to the college level. Ffrench has exceptionally quick feet and a sudden release off the line of scrimmage, consistently creating separation from defenders whether they’re playing off or pressing him in man coverage.

He already demonstrates advanced route-running skills, using subtle, deceptive movements to keep defensive backs off balance. Ffrench has natural hands, catching the ball away from his body and aggressively plucking it out of the air. He excels at tracking the ball and shows impressive coordination, adjusting and contorting his body to make difficult catches, even near the boundary.

Ffrench is a serious threat after the catch, showing great elusiveness in the open field. His long strides help him cover ground quickly, and he has the ability to change speeds smoothly. He also comes from a strong football background—his older brother, Maurice Ffrench, was a standout at Pittsburgh during the Kenny Pickett era, setting the school record for receptions in a season with 96 before spending time in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers. Jamie Ffrench clearly shares the same talent and potential, positioning him to be a dynamic playmaker at the next level.
