Former NHL player and Pittsburgh Penguin has tragically passed away at the age of 66.
Playing in the NHL, even if only for a few games, is a significant achievement, and the loss of a former player resonates deeply, whether or not we recall watching them on the ice.
He was selected 25th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1978 NHL Draft, passed away at the age of 66. The news was shared by the NHL Alumni Association on X. While He only appeared in four NHL games, his hockey career took him to various leagues across North America, including the NCAA, OHL, and AHL, as well as a stint in Sweden.
But He was more than just a player. After his time on the ice, he fully engulfed himself in his community. He coached, mentored, and volunteered, always finding ways to give back and trying to help the young athletes grow. His passion for the game and for helping others left a lasting mark on everyone around him. As we remember Mike Meeker, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone lucky enough to know him. His loss is deeply felt by all those whose lives he touched, both on and off the ice.
