Report: Nick Saban Sends Strong Message About Kalen DeBoer On College GameDay
Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban is stepping into a new role this morning as a host on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” marking his first season in this capacity. Meanwhile, in Tuscaloosa, Kalen DeBoer is preparing for his debut game as the new head coach of the Crimson Tide.
When asked about DeBoer, Saban had high praise for the former Washington head coach ahead of Alabama’s matchup against Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. ET. “Kalen has done an excellent job taking over this program because he has the right mindset,” Saban said. “He embraced the tradition and culture but also made his own mark on how he wanted to coach the team. I’m really excited about what Kalen will do for Alabama.”
Saban’s transition into retirement is unique but well-earned after leading the Crimson Tide to six national championships over 17 years. He still maintains an office in Tuscaloosa and is ready to offer advice if DeBoer seeks it. “I just kind of step back,” Saban said. “If he calls and asks, I’m happy to share my opinion.”
The No. 5 Crimson Tide will face Western Kentucky at Bryant-Denny Stadium at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN).
