JUST IN: Dabo Swinney confirm Behind Transfer Portal Use
During Saturday’s “College GameDay,” Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney explained his decision not to utilize the transfer portal this offseason and discussed the team’s chemistry as they head into the 2024 college football season. While mic’d up at Mercedes-Benz Stadium before Clemson’s game against top-ranked Georgia, Swinney addressed Pat McAfee’s questions about his portal strategy and how the team plans to rebound from a relatively disappointing previous year.
Swinney explained that their decision-making process is based on what’s best for Clemson and the current roster. “First, we assess who is returning and evaluate our starters and the development of players like Wade Woodaz,” Swinney said. “Then, we decide if we need to bring in new players. This is a collaborative effort, and we always aim to do what’s best for the team and Clemson.”
Regarding team chemistry, Swinney reflected on the challenges faced last season, which ended with a 9-4 record. “We have great chemistry,” he said. “The team fought through adversity and finished strong, which has positively impacted the offseason. With more experience and lessons learned, they are determined to excel.”
Swinney emphasized a focus on performance over external factors: “It’s not about today’s scoreboard but how we play the game, regardless of who we play or where. I’m confident they will give their best effort. We’re looking forward to a great year ahead.”
The No. 14-ranked Clemson Tigers will kick off their 2024 season against the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game begins at noon (ET) and will be broadcast on ABC.
