JUST IN NOW: Boston Bruins confirm a huge done deal with Jeremy Swayman just now, to replaced him as the teams captain, since their current captain is suffering from a terrible surgery
Unrestricted Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman participated in the captains’ practice on Tuesday, Throughout the offseason, both Swayman and the Bruins have consistently expressed confidence that they would eventually reach a long-term contract agreement. However, with training camp just over two weeks away, Swayman remains unsigned.
His participation in the captains’ practice doesn’t necessarily indicate that a deal is close. Notably, former Bruin Chris Wagner, now with the Avalanche, also joined the practice while wearing Colorado gear. The start of training camp on September 18 will be a much more telling moment.
The Bruins demonstrated their commitment to Swayman as their No. 1 goalie by trading Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators this summer. Swayman is coming off an impressive season where he was an All-Star and had an exceptional playoff run.
Swayman recently addressed his contract situation on the “Shut Up Marc” podcast, explaining how he has educated himself on the business side of hockey and understands the implications of his decisions on the goalie market.
Bruins president Cam Neely and head coach Jim Montgomery have both expressed confidence that a deal will be reached, despite acknowledging that negotiations haven’t been as smooth as they would have liked. Neely assured fans that an agreement is likely to be reached soon.
