REPORT: 2 UNC Football Stars Earn ACC Player Of The Week Accolades
The UNC football program was well represented in the ACC’s Players of the Week awards during the first weekend of the 2024 collegiate football season.
Jahvaree Ritzee was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week, while kicker Noah Burnette earned the Specialist of the Week honor.
Ritzee delivered what might be his best performance with UNC football, recording six total tackles and three sacks, making him a significant challenge for the Gophers’ offensive line.
Burnette continued his consistent play, building on last season’s success. He nailed a career-best 52-yard field goal, with three of his attempts coming from over 40 yards. His most crucial kick came in the final minutes, securing the game-winning field goal for the Tar Heels.
In their 19-17 Week 1 victory, UNC’s defense and special teams played pivotal roles, and both will be key to the team’s success moving forward. The hope is for Ritzee to build on his standout performance and for Burnette to maintain his clutch kicking ability.
Ritzee, Burnette, and the UNC football team will return to Chapel Hill for their home opener on Saturday afternoon, hosting Charlotte in non-conference action.
