While Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase and New York Jets pass-rusher Haason Reddick are still waiting on a contract extension (or potentially a trade in Reddick’s situation) from their teams, it’s been an offseason filled with huge payouts for NFL superstars. A significant portion of this new money has gone to athletes from a major pipeline for NFL talent — the University of Alabama.

Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain II became the latest former Crimson Tide standout to secure a lucrative deal, agreeing to a four-year, $96 million extension with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday, including $77.5 million guaranteed. This contract makes him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.
Surtain is just one of nearly two dozen Alabama alumni who secured millions this summer, either by signing long-term deals with their current teams or joining new ones through free agency.
This group includes several offensive stars, such as Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and star running backs Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers, respectively.
Additionally, a number of former Alabama receivers inked significant contracts. Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeVonta Smith and Miami Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle both signed extensions to remain with their teams. Meanwhile, Calvin Ridley and Jerry Jeudy departed from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Broncos to join the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns, respectively.
With nine national championship appearances under legendary coach Nick Saban from 2009-2021, including six titles, it’s no surprise that so many former Alabama players are now securing major NFL contracts. It’s the kind of money that even Dr. Evil from the “Austin Powers” trilogy would envy.
