DONE DEAL: Former Alabama Star and Nick Saban’s favorite Gets Hit With An Epic New Contract In The NFL

Alabama has excelled at producing NFL players, particularly defensive backs, largely due to the influence of former head coach Nick Saban. Despite being the head coach, Saban personally coached the defensive backs, molding many into NFL-caliber players.

Last year, true freshman Caleb Downs was one of the top safeties in the nation for the Crimson Tide. However, after Saban retired, Downs transferred to Ohio State, as he was no longer under the guidance of the greatest defensive backs coach of all time.

If you look across NFL rosters, you’ll find numerous Alabama defensive backs, with one recently securing a significant payday just before the season starts.

Alabama’s Star Corner Gets A New NFL Deal

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II has agreed to a new contract extension. Schefter reported, “The Denver Broncos and two-time Pro Bowl CB Patrick Surtain II reached an agreement today on a four-year, $96 million extension that includes $77.5 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.”

Surtain, who was selected ninth overall by Denver in the 2021 NFL Draft, was a key contributor to the Crimson Tide’s 2020 national championship team. Since entering the NFL, Surtain has established himself as one of the league’s top defenders, and his new contract reflects that, making him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.

At just 24 years old, Surtain has already earned two Pro Bowl selections and was named to the 2022 All-Pro Team, missing only one game in his NFL career back in 2021.

Despite Denver’s struggles on defense, Surtain has been a standout performer, and the hope is that he can be a cornerstone in their defensive turnaround this season. His success also highlights Alabama’s exceptional ability to prepare players for the next level, with yet another high draft pick securing a lucrative NFL contract.
