BREAKING: Florida State Makes Unwanted Decision After disastrous 2024 college football season start
Florida State is reeling after a disastrous start to the 2024 college football season. After a shocking upset to unranked Georgia Tech in the opener, No. 10 FSU struggled again at home against unranked Boston College, ultimately losing 28-13 and dropping to 0-2.
In just two weeks, Mike Norvell’s program has gone from an ACC Championship and College Football Playoff contender to the bottom of the conference. The rapid fall is historic, as FSU became the first team in 16 years to drop from a preseason top-10 ranking to unranked in the next AP Poll, a fate Clemson shared in 2008.
Though the Seminoles still have time to recover, it appears their preseason expectations were overestimated. However, those expectations weren’t unwarranted after an ACC title and a 13-1 finish last year.
Florida State’s sudden decline highlights the difficulty of sustaining success, especially in the transfer portal era, where rosters undergo major changes year to year. The Seminoles thrived in 2023 with transfers, and it was easy to believe in them again after bringing in 17 new transfers this offseason to replace 22 departures.
FSU must find cohesion quickly, or the downward spiral will continue, intensifying the challenges in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles will look to bounce back at home on Sept. 14 against Memphis, with kickoff scheduled for noon ET on ESPN.
