BREAKING: Georgia football’s Kirby Smart makes strong NFL claim amid transfer portal buzz
Georgia has established itself as one of the top college football programs for producing NFL talent in recent years. The Bulldogs’ success, including winning two of the last three national championships, has been fueled by the abundance of NFL-caliber players on their roster, a testament to the work of head coach Kirby Smart and his staff.
Like every program, Georgia is not immune to losses through the transfer portal, which has become a significant part of college football. Numerous factors contribute to a player’s decision to transfer, and each case is unique.
“Every kid’s different, every kid’s in a different spot,” Smart explained, as quoted by On3. He emphasized that factors like playing time, family dynamics, and individual circumstances play a role in these decisions, and such discussions are often private.
Despite the portal’s influence, Smart finds it unfortunate when players leave Georgia, especially given how highly NFL teams regard the development process at his program. “The feedback we get from the NFL is there’s nowhere they’d rather have players than here developing,” Smart said, underlining the advantage Georgia offers in preparing players for the next level.
NFL teams love Georgia football
According to head coach Kirby Smart, NFL teams have a strong appreciation for the development of players coming from the Georgia football program. NFL scouts have consistently praised the way Georgia prepares its athletes, noting that staying in the program, even without extensive game time, greatly benefits players due to the high level of competition in practices.
“Countless teams have told me the kids that come out of your program are so much better off and developed for having stayed even over playing because of what kind of practice they get and who they get to go against,” Smart said. He emphasized that NFL scouts highly value the chance to observe Georgia players competing against each other in practice, giving them confidence in evaluating the talent coming out of the program.
Smart also mentioned that NFL scouts often prefer quality over quantity when assessing players, and Georgia’s environment provides an ideal place for that development. “They’d much rather players training in Georgia than anywhere else,” he said, underscoring the program’s reputation for producing NFL-ready talent.
With Kirby Smart at the helm and a 2024 roster packed with future NFL prospects, Georgia remains one of the top college football programs. The Bulldogs are well-positioned for another national title run, aiming for their third championship in four years.
