Corey Seager Is Done: Texas Rangers Slugger Having Season-Ending Sports Hernia Surgery
Corey Seager’s 2024 season has come to an end, as the Texas Rangers shortstop will undergo season-ending sports hernia surgery on Friday, according to Rangers GM Chris Young. Seager, who has been on the injured list since Sept. 3 due to right hip discomfort, had previously undergone hernia surgery on his left side in January, which caused him to miss much of spring training. This upcoming surgery will address the right side.
Seager, 30, finishes the season with a .278 batting average, 30 home runs, 21 doubles, and 74 RBIs over 123 games—his lowest totals in three years, aside from his batting average. The two-time World Series MVP got off to a slow start in 2024, partly due to missing most of spring training while recovering from his left hernia surgery. He earned days off through April and May but still managed to earn his third consecutive All-Star selection.
Despite a sluggish start, batting just .236 with two homers in March and April, Seager rebounded in May, hitting .287 with 11 home runs and 21 RBIs in 25 games. He hit a career-high 11 home runs in August, matching his previous best for homers in a single month.
Seager’s production was notably higher in games the Rangers won, batting .323 with 15 homers, 15 doubles, and a .981 OPS, compared to a .235 average with the same number of homers but fewer doubles and a .752 OPS in games the Rangers lost.
