The Texas Longhorns are riding high after their impressive 31-12 victory over the reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Texas looked significantly better than Michigan, a performance that may reflect more on Michigan’s weaknesses, but it was still a commanding win that caught a lot of attention.

Former Alabama QB says Texas is currently on par with Georgia

Heading into the season, Texas was seen as a potential national championship contender, and so far, they are living up to that expectation. ESPN analyst and former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy even compared Steve Sarkisian’s team to Kirby Smart’s Georgia program, which is quite the compliment.

“Texas has now joined Georgia as one of the most complete teams in college football,” McElroy said on “Always College Football” (via On3). “They are fast, physical, well-coached, and poised in high-pressure situations. If there’s a positive trait to apply to a team from this past weekend, Texas deserves it.”

For a former national champion quarterback to make this comparison is significant, especially when considering how dominant Georgia has been, winning two straight titles before missing the CFP last season. Outside of Nick Saban’s Alabama and Dabo Swinney’s Clemson, few teams have been as dominant as Georgia in recent years, making McElroy’s assessment of Texas even more noteworthy.

“If you don’t believe this Texas team can win it all, you’re crazy,” McElroy added.
