The Vancouver Canucks have been hit hard by injuries recently, and now veteran defenseman is facing another setback as he continues to struggle with serious concussion issues.

Yesterday, the team surprised the hockey world by announcing that forward Dakota Joshua had been diagnosed with cancer, though there was a positive update on his condition. Unfortunately, the bad news continues.

According to reports, 31-year-old Tucker Poolman will miss the entire 2024/25 season, after also sitting out the 2023/24 season due to ongoing concussion problems that have caused him to miss significant time in recent years. Despite being drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 2013 and making his NHL debut in 2017, Poolman has only appeared in 168 NHL games. His time in Vancouver, which began in 2021, has been marred by health issues.

Since signing a four-year deal with the Canucks in 2021, Poolman has played in just 43 games, missing all of last season and only playing three games the season before. His concussions are now threatening his career.

At 31, the Iowa native has struggled with injuries throughout his career, though he showed potential when healthy, with a career-high 12 goals in 2018.

With health concerns for Joshua, Poolman, Brock Boeser, and Thatcher Demko, the Canucks face depth challenges heading into training camp. However, given the high-end talent on their roster, there’s hope they can build on a strong 2023/24 season.
