In Week 4, Colorado pulled off a remarkable comeback, convincing four-star Penn State commit to flip his allegiance. While Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has primarily built his roster through the transfer portal, this weekend he secured his eighth high school commitment in the 2025 class by flipping Branch, a four-star defensive back, from Penn State.

Branch visited Boulder for his official visit at an ideal time, witnessing Colorado’s thrilling overtime victory against Baylor. The game featured a dramatic hail mary to force overtime, followed by star two-way player Travis Hunter forcing a game-winning fumble on the goal line. Hunter’s play ignited a frenzy at Folsom Field, with fans storming the field before the win was confirmed by replay. Though the celebration seemed excessive, considering Baylor’s 3-9 record last season, the moment was undoubtedly electric for any recruit. Paired with the excitement surrounding Deion Sanders, it’s easy to see why Branch reconsidered his decision.

Hunter, the top defensive back recruit in the country at the time, chose to play for Sanders at HBCU Jackson State and later followed him to Colorado. The chance to play for one of the greatest defensive backs in football history likely drew Branch in as well.

With Branch’s departure, Penn State head coach James Franklin’s 2025 recruiting class is down to 24 commits but remains strong in the secondary. Four-star cornerback Daryus Dixson is the top recruit in the class, and fellow cornerback Jahmir Joseph is another of the eight four-star players committed to heading to Happy Valley next year.
