Good and bad news for Lions as they place 2 players on IR and sign elite WR to 53-man roster

The Detroit Lions placed linebacker Derrick Barnes and defensive end Marcus Davenport on injured reserve and signed wide receiver Tim Patrick to their 53-man roster on Tuesday. Patrick, who had already played in two games this season for the Lions after being elevated from the practice squad, is now officially part of the active roster.

Marcus Davenport’s placement on injured reserve was expected after head coach Dan Campbell announced on Monday that Davenport suffered a season-ending tricep tear in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. In his two appearances this season, Davenport recorded a half-sack and four quarterback hits. He had also missed Week 2 due to a groin injury.

Derrick Barnes, who suffered a knee injury in the same game, is expected to be out for an extended period, though the exact timeline is uncertain. Campbell mentioned they are seeking second opinions to determine how long Barnes will be sidelined. So far this season, Barnes has totaled 10 tackles and defended one pass in three games.
