JUST IN: Penguins Cut Two 2024 Draft Picks from Training Camp
On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins reduced their training camp roster by two players, sending forward Tanner Howe and defenseman Finn Harding back to their respective junior teams.
Both players were part of the team’s draft class from June.
Howe, a left-handed forward standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 175 pounds, was chosen in the second round (No. 46 overall). He signed a three-year entry-level contract in July that will take effect once he turns professional. Returning to the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL), Howe served as captain last season, leading the team with 77 points (28 goals, 49 assists) in 68 games.
At 18 years old, Howe played in one preseason game, recording no points, three shots, and four penalty minutes.
Harding, a right-handed defenseman selected in the seventh round (No. 223 overall), is currently unsigned. According to Cap Wages, the Penguins retain his NHL rights until June 1, 2026. He played for the Brampton Steelheads in the Ontario Hockey League, where he participated in 68 games last season, scoring 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists).
Harding did not see any action in the preseason.
With these changes, the Penguins now have 62 players remaining in training camp.
