BREAKING: Jets Confirms LB Major Deal to Practice Squad
The Jets have added linebacker Anthony Hines to their practice squad while placing linebacker Brandon Smith on the practice squad injured reserve.
Hines, standing at 6-3 and weighing 226 pounds, was with the Jets during the summer but was part of the final roster cuts. Initially signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2021, Hines didn’t make the team after training camp. The Texas A&M alum later secured a reserve/future contract with the Rams in 2022, spending the last two years moving between their practice squad. During his college career from 2017 to 2019, Hines played in 13 games during his final season, recording 73 tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss.
Smith, who measures 6-3 and 241 pounds, joined the Jets’ practice squad earlier this week. A fourth-round pick by the Panthers in 2022 out of Penn State, he appeared in 12 games, including one start, as a rookie.
After being released, he signed with the Eagles, playing in two games last season, logging 31 special teams snaps without any defensive snaps.
