REPORT: Packers’ $48 Million Star Facing Imminent NFL Suspension
Like the 2-2 Green Bay Packers, star running back Josh Jacobs has had an up-and-down start to the 2024 season. After signing a four-year, $48 million deal in March to take over for Aaron Jones, the two-time Pro Bowler has accumulated 329 rushing yards and 52 receiving yards but hasn’t found the end zone in four games.
In Sunday’s 31-29 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Jacobs had only 13 touches, a notable drop from the 32 carries he had for 151 yards two weeks prior. Over the weekend, he was fined $45,020 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness and helmet use against Titans defensive back Quandre Diggs in Week 3, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Jacobs is currently appealing the fine to avoid additional punishment from the league.
“Josh Jacobs is contesting his $45,020 fine, marking his first since the NFL cautioned him and a select group of players at the start of the season that further safety violations could result in a suspension,” Pelissero stated on X. “In 2023, Jacobs received two fines for helmet use; one was rescinded and the other was reduced.
Pelissero’s post on X confirmed that Jacobs was among the players warned by the NFL regarding safety violations ahead of the 2024 season, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on September 8. “The NFL recently sent a memo to over 20 players and their respective teams, stressing the importance of safety and sportsmanship, and warning that suspensions would follow any violations,
Schafer reported. He also mentioned that starting in 2024, NFL teams could face fines for players suspended due to safety violations, personal conduct policy breaches, and drug-related suspensions, following the reinstatement of the league’s club remittance policy.
