Uchenna Nwosu’s return to the Seattle Seahawks lineup was short-lived as he exited during the first half of his 2024 debut against the New York Giants. After missing the first month of the season due to an MCL sprain sustained on an illegal chop block during the preseason, Nwosu faced another setback with a thigh injury. This injury, which was not immediately obvious during the CBS broadcast, appeared to be a non-contact issue or possibly a result of the previous play captured on All-22 footage.

Uchenna Nwosu’s thigh injury initially appears to be non-contact, but there’s a possibility it occurred during the previous play when he was involved in the tackle of Tyrone Tracy. Observations from All-22 footage suggest that while the injury wasn’t clearly visible during the CBS broadcast, it may have been influenced by his actions on that last snap.

Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that Uchenna Nwosu will definitely be out for the Seahawks’ Week 6 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, with the possibility of a longer absence. He stated, “I think Chenna’s [injury] might be longer than we wanted with his thigh” during an appearance on Seattle Sports 710.

Latest injury to Seattle Seahawks' Nwosu doesn't sound good

In addition to Nwosu, the Seahawks could face significant challenges with about half of their starting defense missing for Thursday’s game. Key players such as pass rushers Derick Hall and Boye Mafe, along with cornerback Riq Woolen, are also expected to be unavailable. Byron Murphy II remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, adding to the defensive woes as the team prepares for a crucial game.

More from Mike Macdonald on injuries:

Won’t get Chenna back this week. TBD on whether he’ll be out longer than that.

Riq and D Hall, sounds TBD in terms of their Thursday availability.

Boye Mafe will likely be game-time decision.

Could be another week for Byron Murphy

Circling back to Nwosu, it’s worth wondering whether or not he’ll be placed on short-term IR if this injury is as serious as it sounds. They avoided doing this with the MCL sprain, but it might be something considered on this occasion, especially with a bye week directly after this four-game stretch.
