Dan Campbell always looks forward to his trips to face the Dallas Cowboys, as it feels like a homecoming for the Detroit coach, who hails from Texas. This visit comes nearly nine months after a controversial two-point conversion call that led to the Lions’ narrow 20-19 loss, significantly impacting their pursuit of the top spot in the NFC.

While Campbell recognizes the narrative of seeking revenge, he remains composed and focused as the team prepares for Sunday’s game at AT&T Stadium. His approach underscores a commitment to the present, emphasizing the importance of this game in the context of the season rather than dwelling on past controversies.

The Lions have kicked off the season with a strong 3-1 record for the second consecutive year, marking their best start in a decade. Meanwhile, the Cowboys, currently at 3-2, have bounced back from two tough home losses with two victories on the road.

“You’ve got to keep your head about you no matter what it is, and I think each game, you can always find something,” said Campbell, who was born less than 100 miles from Dallas and spent three of his ten NFL seasons with the Cowboys. “There are reasons behind why you want to win them, and you find what those are, and they’re different every week.”

With both teams looking to build on their respective successes, Sunday’s matchup promises to be an exciting showdown in AT&T Stadium.

On December 30, the Lions orchestrated a dramatic 75-yard drive, scoring a touchdown with just 23 seconds remaining. In a bold move, Campbell opted for a two-point conversion, employing a play he had previously discussed with the officials.

Lineman Taylor Decker caught the pass that would have put the Lions ahead 21-20, but the officials ruled that Dan Skipper had reported as eligible while Decker had not. Quarterback Jared Goff believed the opposite was true.

Goff’s initial attempt ended in an interception, but the Cowboys were called for offsides, giving the Lions another chance. Unfortunately, that third attempt resulted in an incomplete pass, falling short of the goal line.

While reporters were keen to discuss that pivotal moment, they also highlighted Goff’s impressive performance in a recent game, where he completed all 18 of his passes in a 42-29 victory over Seattle. Despite the Lions having a bye last week, the conversation inevitably circled back to the controversial play that significantly impacted their playoff hopes last season.
