PENSBURGH: Evgeni Malkin request for trade in latest comments
Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby have been the backbone of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise for about a decade now.
However, both of these players are nearing the conclusion of their careers. If one thing is certain right now, it is that these players want to go out there and win another Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, the Penguins are not a particularly good team right now. They have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons. Furthermore, some fans believe the squad will be unable to turn things around this season.
Malkin recently spoke with The Athletic on his time in Pittsburgh and the hardships of the last two years. As you will read, Malkin wants nothing more than to make the playoffs at least once more before retiring.
I sat down for a chat with Geno Malkin (who can hit 500 goals with two tonight) the other day. He had some interesting things to say. On when he might retire, how he is changing his game, and why he can’t walk away without tasting the playoffs again: https://t.co/UUgiPY7GMz

“I love the playoffs so much,” Malkin remarked. I need to feel that again. I couldn’t leave even if it meant never playing in the playoffs again. Not until then.
‘I was really mad the previous two years,’ Malkin admitted. ‘Missed the playoffs by one or two points. Terrible.’
When you consider how bad the Penguins have been lately, the only conclusion is that Malkin may be on the verge of being traded. It’s sad, but true. While we’re sure he’d like to establish his ability to win again in Pittsburgh, the team’s current lineup may prevent that.
