BREAKING: Seahawks’ Playoff Hopes, 3 Positions in Need of Immediate Trade Deadline Boost
The Seattle Seahawks are currently in a downward spiral, having dropped their last three games. Their defense, in particular, has been struggling, and there doesn’t seem to be an easy solution to the array of issues plaguing the team. Despite this, it’s clear Seattle needs to take action if they hope to improve their performance.
Several positions have been particularly problematic during this losing streak. One of these areas was a significant issue in 2023 and remains a concern. The good news is that it’s a position the team should be able to upgrade.
General manager John Schneider has a history of making impactful trades. He brought in Duane Brown, who became a long-term and effective starter at left tackle. Though Jadeveon Clowney only stayed for one season, he was highly productive during his time with the Seahawks. Now, Schneider might need to work some trade magic once again to turn the 2024 season around. Would you like me to expand on specific positions the Seahawks could target for improvement?
Three positions the Seattle Seahawks should look to upgrade at the 2024 trade deadline
Right guard is a major issue for the Seahawks, with Anthony Bradford struggling significantly. According to Pro Football Focus, Bradford ranks as the fourth-worst overall guard in the NFL this season. The players below him include a rookie, a left guard, and a versatile lineman who has mostly filled in at left tackle. Bradford’s performance in both run-blocking and pass protection has been poor all season, and his Week 6 showing against the San Francisco 49ers was no exception. He allowed seven pressures, including a sack, although he did avoid penalties, which have been a recurring issue for him.
The Seahawks have another option in rookie Christian Haynes, who has shown slightly better performance but hasn’t proven himself as a clear upgrade over Bradford. While Haynes didn’t allow any pressures against the 49ers, he was only trusted for five pass-blocking snaps.
Seattle could explore trade options to upgrade the position. One potential target is Dillon Radunz of the Tennessee Titans, who is in his first year as a full-time right guard and in the final year of his contract. Radunz has allowed just nine pressures on 168 pass-block snaps and has generally been a strong run-blocker. Another option is the Carolina Panthers’ Austin Corbett. While Corbett has played center this season, he has four years of experience as a starting right guard. In 2022, he allowed just 15 pressures in 541 pass-block snaps, making him a viable trade candidate to stabilize the Seahawks’ offensive line.
If Seattle wants to improve their offensive line play and protect their quarterback, finding an upgrade at right guard before the trade deadline could be crucial.
