Brandon Beane spoke with former NFL lineman Ross Tucker on his popular podcast about the NFL’s trade deadline and the Chiefs.

In an alternate NFL universe, Brandon Beane’s Bills would likely have a championship ring by now, if not for the Kansas City Chiefs’ hold over the AFC. Beane, Buffalo’s general manager, has built a formidable roster, creating an annual contender in a conference loaded with powerhouse teams. Yet, despite his best efforts, the Chiefs have remained a constant obstacle, consistently outmaneuvering the Bills since 2018 and maintaining their dominance through the 2024 season.

Beane recently joined former NFL lineman Ross Tucker on his *Ross Tucker Football Podcast*, where he discussed how the Chiefs’ relentless success shapes his approach to team-building and trade strategy. The conversation turned to the Chiefs’ moves at this year’s trade deadline, which Beane admitted was hard to ignore as a rival GM. “You never want those guys to get better,” Beane said, highlighting the competitive edge that drives him, though he added that he’s always focused on doing what’s best for Buffalo in the long term.

NFL deadline passes without any trades by Buffalo Bills; 2 players put on practice squad Covid-19 list

The Chiefs and Bills made headlines during the 2024 NFL Draft when Beane allowed Kansas City to trade up for receiver Xavier Worthy. Buffalo fans were vocal, questioning why the Bills would aid their fiercest rivals. Beane addressed that decision, saying, “People got mad… but ultimately they made a move that they thought fit their team and we made a move for us. It doesn’t have to be a win-or-lose; sometimes both teams can succeed after a move.” The Bills went on to select receiver Keon Coleman, a player with potential, but fans were left wondering what the Chiefs’ quick pickup meant for Buffalo’s AFC chances.

While analysts debate whether Buffalo, with its decisive wins this season, is in a stronger position than Kansas City, the Chiefs have again edged ahead with a flawless 7-0 record. Beane knows well that the path to dethroning the Chiefs requires more than talent. “They know how to win, and there’s something to that,” he reflected, crediting the Chiefs’ GM Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid for building a battle-tested franchise.

In many ways, Beane’s approach exemplifies the NFL’s culture of parity—constantly striving to close the gap and topple the reigning contenders.
