BREAKING: Bills Open To Trading $2.8m Safety
The Bills signed safety to a one-year, $2.8 million deal this offseason, but he has only played in three of the team’s eight games so far. Edwards has seen limited action, with just 20 snaps—seven on defense and 13 on special teams—as defensive coordinator Bobby Babich has opted to start Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin at safety, with Cam Lewis and Cole Bishop filling in for depth.
As a result, Edwards is reportedly on the trade block, with ESPN’s Dan Fowler noting that Edwards is open to a trade for more playing time. Four of Edwards’ five game absences have been healthy scratches, with an illness sidelining him for Week 7.
Edwards, with just under $1 million left in salary and per-game bonuses, would likely require only a late Day 3 pick to acquire, making him a budget-friendly option for teams needing secondary depth.
Meanwhile, according to The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia, the Bills could benefit from stronger safety play. While Rapp and Hamlin have been effective as starters, Bishop and Lewis have struggled, with Pro Football Focus grades of 50.3 and 45.5, respectively.
If the Bills trade Edwards, they may consider re-signing Micah Hyde, who entered free agency this past spring. Hyde has indicated he would either retire or return to Buffalo, and the team has reportedly left the door open for a reunion. Hyde’s experience alongside Rapp in 2023 would make for an easy transition back into the defense.
