BREAKING: Los Angeles Angels exchange Griffin Canning for Braves $42 million slugger
The MLB hot stove is heating up.
The Los Angeles Angels traded right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for former Giants DH Jorge Soler, as reported first by ESPN’s Jeff Passan and later confirmed by the teams.
The Angels have officially added OF/DH Jorge Soler to their roster in exchange for RHP Griffin Canning.
Soler is now set to join his sixth team since his MLB debut in 2014. The 32-year-old Cuban slugger, known for his power, signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Giants last offseason before being moved to the Braves in July.
Over his career, Soler has hit 191 home runs with a .243 average and one All-Star selection. A two-time World Series champion, he won titles with the Royals in 2015 and the Braves in 2021, taking home the World Series MVP that year.
In 2024, Soler logged 21 home runs, 64 RBIs, and a .241 average in 142 games with the Giants and Braves.
Canning, a 28-year-old starter, went 6-13 with a 5.19 ERA across 32 games (31 starts) with the Angels in 2024, having been with the team since his 2019 debut.
