Report: Bills’ Khalil Shakir Reveals Key To Hot Start To Season Being on the same page as the quarterback
The Buffalo Bills’ decision to move on from Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis in the offseason raised questions about how the offense would adjust. This left Khalil Shakir as the only remaining receiver who had previously caught a pass from Josh Allen in an NFL game. To fill the void, Buffalo added Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel, and drafted Keon Coleman to bolster Allen’s options. After a 2023 season where Shakir contributed 611 yards and two touchdowns in a supporting role, he’s already reached 421 yards and two touchdowns through just seven games in 2024 under offensive coordinator Joe Brady. When asked about his progress, Shakir emphasized, “Being on the same page as the quarterback, being where he’s supposed to be… doing the little things right, and making the play when the ball comes your way.”
Though Shakir’s stats aren’t astronomical, his consistency is impressive. With performances of 42, 54, 72, 62, 19, 65, and 107 yards, he’s becoming a key target for Allen. What makes Shakir invaluable is his reliability—he’s caught 36 out of 38 targets, leading the NFL with a 94.7% catch rate through Week 8.
With the Bills’ “everybody eats” approach driving the offense to an average of 28.8 points per game (fifth in the league), Shakir is making the most of his opportunities. Expected to step up this season, he’s on track to surpass his previous numbers as he emerges as Allen’s go-to weapon.
