The Miami Dolphins are in critical need of a win against the Buffalo Bills this Sunday. With a record of 2-5 midway through the 2024-25 season, injuries and a dip in performance have put Miami on the edge of falling out of playoff contention.

The Bills have held the upper hand over the Dolphins in recent matchups, so Miami will be especially motivated to break that trend against their AFC East rivals. One Dolphin who might be particularly eager for a win is tight end Jonnu Smith, who shared his unfiltered opinion about Buffalo over the summer. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith voiced his frustration with the Bills on *The Dive Bar Podcast*.

“Buffalo is ‘the worst place you can be in the world,'” Smith reportedly said, adding, “The buffalo wings ain’t even good. They ain’t even good. I’m throwing all types of shots at Buffalo.” Smith, now in his first season with the Dolphins after two seasons with the Patriots, has made 25 catches and scored one touchdown across seven games so far.

Dolphins still have path to playoffs at 2-5

Despite a rough start to the season, the Miami Dolphins still have a viable shot at making the playoffs. The lower half of the AFC is currently underperforming, creating opportunities for teams to make a late-season push.

With Tua Tagovailoa back in action, Miami is among the teams vying for a Wild Card spot. As of Sunday, the Dolphins are only two games behind the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Wild Card standings. While a division title may be out of reach even with a win over the Bills, the Dolphins still have a chance to slip into the playoffs with a strong second half.

The Dolphins’ defense has held up well this season, even as the offense struggled without Tua Tagovailoa. Now, with their quarterback back in action, the team has a chance to hit its stride.

Head coach Mike McDaniel and his staff also have a favorable schedule ahead, which could help Miami gain momentum in the later months. The Dolphins face teams like the Jets (twice), Raiders, Patriots, and Browns, providing a realistic path to reach nine or even 10 wins if they can play at their best.

However, consistency late in the season has been a challenge for the Dolphins under McDaniel and Tagovailoa. Still, the return of Tagovailoa could be the spark they need to stay strong through the finish and make a playoff push.
