The LSU women’s basketball team has secured a verbal commitment from one of the top 10 recruits in the 2025 class.

She’s a five-star talent from Louisville, Kentucky, announced Sunday that she chose LSU over Kentucky and Louisville, her in-state options. According to 247Sports composite rankings, the 6-foot wing is the ninth-ranked recruit nationally, the top player from Kentucky, and among the top three small forwards in her class.

Johnson visited LSU officially on September 7, along with two other highly ranked prospects. One of those, Divine Bourrage, a guard from Iowa, is already committed to LSU’s 2025 class, while Grace Knox, a forward from California, is still considering her options. Johnson is now the third top-25 recruit pledged to LSU’s upcoming freshman class, joining Bourrage and Bella Hines, a New Mexico guard who committed in April.

If all three sign with LSU in November, the Tigers will kick off the 2025-2026 season with one of the country’s top freshman classes. As of Sunday, LSU is the only school with two 2025 commitments from players ranked in the top 10 by 247Sports’ composite rankings.

LSU assembled a similarly elite class in 2023, signing ESPN’s No. 1 class nationally. Two recruits from that class, Angelica Velez (originally with Syracuse) and Janae Kent (from Texas A&M), have since transferred, but top-10 recruits Mikaylah Williams and Aalyah Del Rosario are returning for their sophomore seasons.

Knox, a top-12 recruit, has yet to make her commitment and is still evaluating offers from LSU, Texas, Tennessee, and Southern Cal.

The Tigers open their 2024-2025 season at 7 p.m. Monday (SEC Network+) with a home game against Eastern Kentucky.
