The Buffalo Bills secured a crucial win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but it may have come with a significant setback. Rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman was injured late in the 30-27 victory after a helmet-to-helmet hit by Dolphins safety Jordan Poyer. The hit resulted in an unnecessary roughness penalty, granting the Bills a key first down on a third-and-9, which ultimately led to Tyler Bass’s game-winning 61-yard field goal.

Coleman did not return to the game, and post-game updates on his injury raised some concerns for the team.

Keon Coleman Suffered Arm Injury

According to Syracuse.com reporter Matt Parrino, rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman was spotted with a brace on his right wrist following the Buffalo Bills’ victory over the Miami Dolphins. Coleman left the game after a helmet-to-helmet hit from Dolphins safety Jordan Poyer, with the impact appearing to make contact with Coleman’s right hand. Afterward, Coleman was seen motioning toward his arm as he headed to the sidelines.

The Bills’ receiving corps has already been hit hard by injuries, as newcomer Amari Cooper was ruled out of Sunday’s game with an arm injury. In the Dolphins game, Coleman contributed one catch for 21 yards and scored a crucial two-point conversion in the third quarter, though a missed catch near the goal line turned into an interception.

Despite the setback, Coleman has been a key player for the Bills this season, tallying 22 receptions for 417 yards and two touchdowns. The team now faces uncertainty with both Coleman and Cooper sidelined, leaving a gap in the receiver lineup going forward.

Dolphins Defend Jordan Poyer’s Hit

After the game, Jordan Poyer, who joined the Dolphins this offseason after seven seasons with the Bills, clarified that he did not intend to make helmet contact with Bills rookie Keon Coleman. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel called the play unfortunate but emphasized that Poyer needs to execute legal hits.

“You have to play aggressive in this game for success,” McDaniel told reporters via Syracuse.com. “I have no doubt the intention was appropriate. ‘Po’ is a huge asset for our team, and he’s been outstanding in helping us improve our preparation, play, and communication. But he knows that as soon as you don’t hit within the ‘strike zone,’ you risk leaving it up to the officials. If you miss that zone, it’s going to be flagged every time because that’s against the rules.”

The win solidified Buffalo’s divisional lead, putting them four games ahead of the second-place New York Jets. The Bills remain undefeated in the division, having swept their season series with the Dolphins for the second consecutive year and the fifth time in the past six seasons.
