BREAKING: Bills release Two-Time Super Bowl Champ Before Trade Deadline
The Buffalo Bills are currently ranked second in the AFC after nine weeks of the season. Since their 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 5, they’ve rallied with four straight wins, achieving a 7-2 record going into Week 10. The Bills made moves ahead of the trade deadline, notably trading for wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns on October 15. Additionally, veteran safety Mike Edwards, who has mostly been inactive this season, was reportedly on the trade block. Edwards, who has played three games in 2024, sought an opportunity to play elsewhere. According to Tom Pelissero from the NFL Network, if Buffalo can’t secure a trade partner by the deadline, they intend to release him. Edwards, a former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has played in 78 career games with 28 starts and won Super Bowl titles with both the Buccaneers (Super Bowl 55) and the Chiefs (Super Bowl 58).
Over his six-year career, Edwards has logged 236 tackles, three sacks, eight interceptions, and 26 passes defended.
“Veteran safety Mike Edwards asked for and has been granted his release from the Bills, barring a trade before today’s deadline, per source,” Pelissero shared on X. “Edwards has appeared in 78 career games (28 starts) but has been a healthy scratch most of this season. Now free to sign elsewhere.”
