The Buffalo Bills stayed out of the trade market as Tuesday’s deadline passed, but they didn’t remain idle. Instead, they made roster improvements via free agency. On Wednesday morning, the Bills announced the addition of defensive tackles Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson to their active roster. Both players had been released by their former teams on Tuesday—Phillips by the Dallas Cowboys and Jefferson by the Cleveland Browns.

When asked about the roles that newly signed defensive tackles Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson would play, Bills head coach Sean McDermott noted that it would depend on their current condition. Both Phillips and Quinton were released by their previous teams,” McDermott commented. “So it’s uncertain what will happen with them. They didn’t get much playing time with their old teams, so we need to evaluate their fitness and readiness to play, taking things step by step.

Phillips and Jefferson are both familiar faces in Buffalo; Phillips played for the Bills from 2018 to 2019 and again from 2022 to 2023, while Jefferson had a stint with the team in 2020. With Dawuane Smoot and DeWayne Carter currently on injured reserve, the Bills are short on defensive linemen. This may lead them to rely on the experience of Phillips and Jefferson in the upcoming weeks
