BREAKING: Buffalo Bills Confirms Bad News about wide receiver for Sunday’s game
Tyrell Shavers made his NFL debut with the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 6. This Sunday, the former Alabama wide receiver may get his second opportunity to play as he continues to pursue his first NFL reception. On Saturday, the Bills elevated Shavers and fellow wide receiver KJ Hamler from the practice squad, making them eligible to play in Buffalo’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts at noon CST on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The Bills elevated Shavers and Hamler due to wide receiver Keon Coleman’s absence on Sunday, as he’s sidelined with a wrist injury. Wide receivers Amari Cooper and Curtis Samuel are also questionable for the game against the Colts after limited practice participation. Cooper, a former Alabama All-American, missed last week’s game due to a wrist injury, while Samuel is dealing with a pectoral injury.
Shavers was also elevated from the practice squad for his NFL debut in the Bills’ 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans on Oct. 6. During the game, he participated in 16 offensive snaps and eight special-teams plays, though quarterback Josh Allen did not target him. During his three seasons with Alabama, Shavers recorded one reception and scored a touchdown from a blocked punt. After redshirting, he appeared in 28 games in 2018 and 2019 for the Crimson Tide.
Shavers transferred to Mississippi State in 2020, where he had nine receptions, and then moved on to San Diego State for two seasons. In 2022 with the Aztecs, he tallied 38 catches for 643 yards and three touchdowns. Shavers later signed with the Bills as an undrafted rookie free agent. Shavers spent the 2023 NFL season on Buffalo’s practice squad without appearing in a regular-season game and has returned to that role in 2024.
