The Detroit Red Wings are determined to break their playoff drought, and one trade proposal suggests they acquire a gritty defenseman to bolster their lineup.

PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool allows users to create hypothetical trades, and one fan proposed a deal where the Red Wings would receive Erik Gudbranson from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

**Red Wings acquire:**
– Erik Gudbranson

**Blue Jackets acquire:**
– Justin Holl
– Antti Tuomisto
– 2025 second-round pick

In this proposal, Detroit would shed Holl’s contract while adding an experienced defenseman to strengthen their playoff push. Gudbranson, currently in the third year of his four-year, $16 million contract with Columbus, would bring physicality to Detroit’s blue line and provide reliable defense against top opposing lines. Over his NHL career, Gudbranson has played in 792 games, tallying 34 goals and 99 assists (133 points).

The key piece in this trade would be Detroit’s second-round pick. Detroit would also send Holl, who’s in the second year of a three-year, $10.2 million deal and has struggled to meet expectations. Tuomisto, the 35th overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft, is currently in the AHL but hasn’t yet made the NHL impact Detroit had hoped for.
