Kalen DeBoer was drenched but thrilled after Alabama’s decisive 42-13 win over LSU in Baton Rouge on Saturday. The Crimson Tide head coach, who endured a downpour on the sidelines, spoke with reporters after the game, clearly proud of his team’s performance with College Football Playoff implications in sight.

“I’m just really proud of the guys,” DeBoer shared. “Their preparation gave them the confidence they needed. We felt the energy all week long.”

Alabama dominated LSU in every aspect. Jalen Milroe led the charge, scoring four rushing touchdowns. The Crimson Tide offense racked up 420 yards, capitalizing on LSU’s defensive gaps.

Kalen DeBoer the right coach for the future, but not the right now for Alabama

“He’s got a gift when it comes to running,” DeBoer said of Milroe. “He’s not just a guy who picks up first downs; he’s a finisher. He got things rolling early and made key throws when we needed them. Other guys stepped up, too. Staying ahead of the chains lets us open the playbook, and that’s huge.”

Alabama’s defense also stepped up, forcing three turnovers, including two interceptions from LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and a strip-sack by linebacker Jihaad Campbell.

“Our defense is in a great place right now,” DeBoer said. “They may give up a play now and then, but they’re quick to reset and execute. They didn’t want to give up that last touchdown, so there’s a lot of pride there.”

Alabama limited the typically dangerous Nussmeier, a feat DeBoer credited to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s strategic approach.

“He identified key wrinkles to add throughout the week,” DeBoer explained. “Mixing up the defenses and pressures made a big difference.”

With the victory, Alabama stays in strong contention for a College Football Playoff spot. They face Mercer next, followed by Oklahoma and Auburn to close the season.

“You just stack each day,” DeBoer said. “We’ve found a bit of swagger, but we’re not overconfident or complacent. We know we have more to prove.”
