BREAKING: Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback sustains unexpected injury

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback sustained an undisclosed injury that placed him on the practice squad injured reserve list on Saturday. This move was part of a series of roster adjustments, marking Gilbert as the second cornerback in three weeks to be sidelined.

Gilbert’s injury, sustained during practice last week, further complicates the Steelers’ cornerback depth. With C.J. Henderson also injured and Cory Trice still progressing, Gilbert’s absence thins an already stretched position.

By Monday, the Steelers will have two open spots on their practice squad following Jonathan Ward’s promotion to the active roster, making it likely they’ll add a cornerback to replace Gilbert on the scout team defense.

Originally, Gilbert joined Pittsburgh during training camp to help address injury gaps. A former Green Bay Packers cornerback, he was initially released during final roster cuts but rejoined the practice squad shortly after. Following cornerback Anthony Averett’s injury three weeks ago, Gilbert was re-signed after being released in early October.
