Bo Nix’s NFL career might have started slowly, but his recent performance has propelled him into serious contention for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. When the Denver Broncos selected Nix with the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, it marked the beginning of a new chapter in Denver.

Many fans across Broncos Country were hopeful but cautious, uncertain if he could develop into a franchise quarterback. There were valid concerns—rookies rarely shine right away, especially on a team managing a historic dead cap and a young roster with limited professional experience.

Moreover, Head Coach Sean Payton’s offense is one of the league’s most intricate systems, so it was reasonable to expect a learning curve for Nix, regardless of his potential and skill set for the NFL. As expected, Nix faced challenges in his first three games, struggling with four interceptions and no touchdown passes, missing key throws, and showing typical rookie jitters. Yet, there were moments where he showed promise.

Each week, Nix improved, reading defenses better, adapting to the speed of the game, and displaying a resilient confidence. His maturity and extensive college experience were beginning to translate to his NFL play.

Since his fourth game, Nix’s performance has been on the rise. He’s been playing with the poise of a veteran, completing 66% of his passes, amassing 1,675 passing yards and 14 touchdowns, and adding two rushing scores and a receiving touchdown to his resume.

His four-touchdown, 300-yard showing against the Atlanta Falcons has firmly placed him in the Rookie of the Year race, likely earning him his second consecutive Rookie of the Week award. Those who assumed Jayden Daniels was a lock for the title may need to reconsider, as Nix’s numbers are quite competitive. Nix leads all rookie quarterbacks with 14 touchdown passes and is tied with Daniels for four rushing touchdowns, trailing Daniels in passing yards by only 63 yards.

With several games left, Nix’s journey is far from over, but Broncos fans have every reason to be thrilled with his recent development. He’s not only emerging as one of the best rookie quarterbacks in the league, but he’s also playing some of the best football of any quarterback right now. The future is bright for both Nix and the Broncos, and as he and his teammates continue to grow, they only stand to improve further.
