Disappointing: Another Ex-Bills WR Suffers Season-Ending Injury After Stefon Diggs
The Buffalo Bills made significant changes to their wide receiving group during the offseason, parting ways with top receiver Stefon Diggs and allowing No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis to leave via free agency.
There had been speculation about how both players would perform without Josh Allen as their quarterback, but that question may remain mostly unanswered. Just weeks after the Houston Texans placed Diggs on injured reserve due to a season-ending torn ACL, Davis has now been added to the list of sidelined players.
On November 19, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars placed Davis on season-ending injured reserve following a knee injury.
Disappointing Season Over for Gabe Davis
Since joining the struggling Jacksonville Jaguars, Gabe Davis has seen a decline in production, with just 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Despite these struggles, he had been one of the top contributors during his four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, recording 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns.
The Bills chose not to re-sign Davis when he became a free agent, opting to save cap space by releasing several veteran players. Davis then signed a three-year, $39 million deal with the Jaguars in March.
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson confirmed on November 19 that Davis would miss the rest of the season after being placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a knee injury. Pederson mentioned that Davis had been dealing with other injuries throughout the year, but was in good spirits despite the setback.
Meanwhile, Davis’s former teammate, Stefon Diggs, also had his season cut short after tearing his ACL in a win over the Indianapolis Colts. Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud expressed sympathy for Diggs, highlighting the hard work he put in and his positive attitude despite the injury.
Other former Bills veterans, like cornerback Tre’Davious White, have faced challenges with new teams as well. White joined the Los Angeles Rams last offseason but was traded to the Baltimore Ravens at the trade deadline.
Bills Revamped Wide Receiving Corps
The Buffalo Bills have gotten off to their best start in over 30 years, partly due to a revamped wide receiving corps that has enabled Josh Allen to distribute targets more evenly. The team used its top draft pick to select rookie Keon Coleman, added veteran Curtis Samuel, and acquired Pro Bowler Amari Cooper at the trade deadline.
These moves have contributed to a more balanced offensive attack, with five players recording at least 20 receptions and 11 different players catching at least one touchdown pass.
