Alabama outside linebacker has filed paperwork to enter the NCAA transfer portal, as confirmed by his representation, A&P Sports Agency, to AL.com. ESPN’s Pete Thamel initially broke the news.

Koht, a redshirt junior, has not appeared in Alabama’s last two games against Mercer and LSU. Ahead of the Mercer game, head coach Kalen DeBoer commented on his status, saying, “He’s suspended right now. I’m not going to get into length or anything like that.”

Before his suspension, Koht contributed as a depth player for Alabama’s defense, recording five tackles, a fumble recovery, and half a sack this season. He will not officially enter the transfer portal until it opens on December 9, remaining open for 30 days.

A former four-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite rankings for the class of 2021, Koht redshirted his first year at Alabama and has dealt with injuries throughout his collegiate career. Despite setbacks, he had earned recognition from the coaching staff for his athleticism during spring practices.

“Athletically, he’s a freak,” said defensive coordinator Kane Wommack in March. “The way he bends off the edge, his explosive ability, and his high motor are impressive. He’s starting to grasp our scheme as well.”

Koht’s departure adds to the challenges facing Alabama’s outside linebacker group, which recently lost starter Que Robinson for the season due to an injury suffered during the LSU game. Reps at the position have primarily gone to Qua Russaw and Yhonzae Pierre, with inside linebacker Jihaad Campbell occasionally shifting outside.

Alabama is set to face Oklahoma on Saturday in Norman as SEC play resumes. The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
