REPORT: Yankees Tabbed As Favourites To Land $66 Million NL Gold Glove Infielder as Juan Soto’s replacement
The New York Yankees have several roster areas to address this offseason, with a key focus on retaining Juan Soto. If Soto isn’t re-signed, the Yankees will need to secure another top-tier outfielder. Additionally, they must find a first baseman and an infielder to replace Anthony Rizzo and Gleyber Torres. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently identified Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker as an excellent fit for New York, naming the Yankees the top destination for him.
Walker, projected to command a $66 million contract this winter, is seen as an ideal replacement for Rizzo. Miller noted that even before the Yankees declined Rizzo’s $17 million option for 2025, first base was already a glaring issue for the team in 2024.
He also highlighted Walker’s potential to thrive at Yankee Stadium, where he has a career OPS of 1.127 in six games.
While some suggest the Yankees could pursue Pete Alonso if they lose out on Soto, Alonso is expected to cost around $100 million more than Walker.
Walker offers not only a more budget-friendly option but also superior defensive skills. With the Yankees needing to address multiple roster needs, signing Walker appears to be a logical move for both the team and the player.
