BREAKING: Official, Chip Lindsey named as Michigan’s offensive coordinator
Hours after Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore indicated he was close to naming a new offensive coordinator, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that Chip Lindsey, the current offensive coordinator at North Carolina, has accepted the position.
Lindsey brings extensive experience, having served as a coordinator at Southern Mississippi, Arizona State, Auburn, and UCF. He was also the head coach at Troy from 2019 to 2021. During his two years with North Carolina, Lindsey helped the Tar Heels average an impressive 32.3 points and 423.3 yards per game this season.
These offensive numbers represent a significant upgrade for Michigan, which struggled offensively last season under former coordinator Kirk Campbell, ranking 128th in yards per game and 112th in points per game. Moore emphasized the need for improvement when discussing the coordinator search on Dec. 4, stating, “We want to be a balanced team. We still want to run the football… but [we want] someone that’s gonna develop the quarterback at a high rate and put them in a great position.”
Lindsey, known for his work as a quarterbacks coach at each of his previous stops, fits the mold Moore described. In Ann Arbor, Lindsey will also have the chance to work with Bryce Underwood, the top quarterback recruit in the 2025 class.
By hiring Lindsey, Michigan hopes to revitalize its offense and return to the high standards of previous seasons. Both Lindsey and the Wolverines are optimistic that his experience and success can help deliver the balance and quarterback development Moore envisions.
