JUST NOW: Angels Sign Coveted Carter Kieboom To Professional Contract
The Los Angeles Angels have signed infielder to a minor league contract, per Aram Leighton of Just Baseball Media. While not confirmed, the deal likely includes an invitation to the team’s big league spring training camp.
Kieboom’s arrival reunites him with Anthony Rendon, whom he was once expected to replace at third base for the Washington Nationals. Drafted 28th overall by the Nationals in 2016, Kieboom quickly rose through the minors, earning spots on top-100 prospect lists. After making his MLB debut in 2019, he appeared poised to take over at third following Rendon’s departure to the Angels that offseason.
However, Kieboom struggled at the MLB level, hitting just .199/.297/.301 over 508 plate appearances across four partial seasons. His development was also disrupted by injuries, including Tommy John surgery in 2022. After appearing in 27 games for Washington in 2023, he spent the entire 2024 season at Triple-A following his removal from the Nationals’ 40-man roster.
Now 27, Kieboom is looking for a fresh start with the Angels. While he isn’t expected to challenge for the starting third base role, he could compete for a roster spot in spring training. His versatility, with experience across all four infield positions, could improve his chances of making the team.
