BREAKING: Bills QB Josh Allen Has Strong Words for Lions After Win
The Detroit Lions’ winning streak came to an end on Sunday, December 15, as they fell to the Buffalo Bills. Despite Buffalo maintaining the lead throughout the game, the contest remained tight until the closing moments, with quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills ultimately securing a 48-42 victory.
In the final seconds, the Lions attempted an onside kick that nearly succeeded. However, one Bills player took issue with how Detroit handled the play and expressed his frustration after the game.
Buffalo Bills Player Calls Out Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions attempted two onside kicks during Sunday’s game, but the one drawing attention is the final attempt. As the Lions scrambled to recover the ball late in the fourth quarter, Buffalo cornerback Taron Johnson—who initially secured the recovery—claimed the Detroit players were engaging in questionable tactics.
“A whole lot of pulling, a whole lot of pinching, putting fingers where they’re not supposed to be and all that stuff,” Johnson said after the game, per WROC-TV. “We just did a good job on that play.”
Was Johnson accusing the Lions of playing dirty? Not exactly. While he stopped short of making that claim outright, he did make it clear he wasn’t pleased with what went on under the pile of players.
Dan Campbell Says the Game Gave the Lions a ‘Bad Taste in Our Mouth’
Regarding the first onside kick, Lions head coach Dan Campbell admitted to the press after the game, “I thought we’d get that ball” and reflected, “I wish I wouldn’t have done that.”
During a radio interview on WXYT (97.1) on Tuesday, December 17, Campbell addressed how the loss to the Bills will serve as motivation for his team moving forward. He also pushed back against fans who believe the team is finished due to the numerous season-ending injuries.
“What happens is you get used to eating filet, and I’m talking to all of us,” Campbell said. “And everything’s good. Life’s good, but you forgot what it was like when you had nothing and you ate your (bleeping) molded bread and it was just fine, and it gave you everything you needed. Sometimes you got to get punched in the mouth and remember what it used to be like to really appreciate where you are.”
Campbell remained optimistic, adding, “We got a bad taste in our mouth, we got kicked around the other day, we lost a few guys, and you know what? It’s exactly what we needed. This is exactly what we needed.”
Lions quarterback Jared Goff also shared his perspective after the game. Goff delivered a standout performance, throwing for 494 yards and five touchdowns, but saw the loss as a learning opportunity.
“Maybe it’s a good wakeup call for us,” Goff said in a postgame press conference. “Nice little recalibration for us. Now we get to go on the road.”
The Lions will look to bounce back when they take on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday, December 22.
