Michigan football made a splash in the transfer portal on Monday by securing two key additions to its secondary. Both former Arkansas defensive backs and cousins of NFL wide receiver DK Metcalf, committed to the Wolverines following a weekend visit to Ann Arbor. They announced their decisions via social media with On3, each celebrating their move to don the maize and blue.

TJ Metcalf, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound safety, has two years of eligibility remaining. In 2024, he recorded 57 tackles, three interceptions, and 10 pass breakups, including a standout two-interception game against Auburn.

Tevis Metcalf, a 5-foot-10, 192-pound cornerback, primarily contributed on special teams last season and has three years of eligibility left.

Both players were consensus three-star recruits according to 247Sports. TJ attended Pinson Valley High School, while Tevis graduated from Clay-Chalkville High School in their hometown of Pinson, Alabama. Notably, Michigan’s coaching staff extended TJ a scholarship offer during his high school career.

Their arrival comes at a critical time for the Wolverines, as the secondary faces significant turnover. Starting safeties Makari Paige and Quinten Johnson, along with cornerback Aamir Hall, are set to depart due to expiring eligibility. Additionally, All-American cornerback Will Johnson has declared for the NFL Draft, and there’s uncertainty surrounding veteran safety Rod Moore, who missed the 2024 season with a torn ACL.

The Metcalf brothers join former Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley, an all-Big Ten honorable mention, as Michigan’s offseason transfer portal additions. More moves are anticipated as the Wolverines look to strengthen their roster.
