BREAKING: 5 Star Florida DL announces transfer commitment to Alabama
Kelby Collins, a former Florida defensive lineman, has announced his transfer to the Alabama Crimson Tide, marking a return to his home state. The Gardendale (Alabama) native was a highly touted prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. Rated as a 4-star player by 247Sports Composite, Collins was ranked as the No. 5 defensive lineman, No. 6 player in Alabama, and the No. 42 prospect nationally.
Collins originally committed to Florida in August 2022 and signed with the Gators that December, choosing them over offers from top programs like Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and Texas A&M. He made an immediate impact at Florida, appearing in all 12 games during his freshman season, earning Freshman All-SEC honors. During that campaign, Collins recorded 23 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, 1 pass breakup, and 1 forced fumble.
In 2024, Collins’ playing time was limited to six games, where he tallied six tackles. His final appearance for the Gators was on October 19 against Kentucky. On December 3, Collins entered the transfer portal, and his decision to join Alabama brings him back to his roots in the Yellowhammer State. He will have two years of eligibility remaining, along with a potential redshirt year.
Collins’ addition bolsters an Alabama defensive line facing departures due to graduation and the transfer portal. The Crimson Tide are looking to maintain their defensive dominance, and Collins’ talent, experience, and familiarity with the SEC make him a valuable asset for Nick Saban’s program.
