BREAKING: 5 Star Georgia football top transfer portal target confirms commitment to UGA Over Kentucky
Georgia football may be on the verge of securing its first transfer portal commitment. The Bulldogs’ top target in the portal has become increasingly clear. Initially, Kirby Smart and UGA pursued Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., but they stepped away after his NIL demands exceeded what Georgia was willing to pay.
Fortunately, Georgia has other wide receiver targets in mind, including Kentucky’s Dane Key. Key appears highly interested in the Bulldogs, as his current visit to Georgia was shared on his Instagram, signaling mutual interest between the player and the program.
Kentucky transfer WR Dane Key
Dane Key’s recruitment has taken several twists and turns since he entered the transfer portal. Georgia expressed immediate interest, with On3 initially naming the Bulldogs as the favorite, and a Rivals recruiting expert echoing that Georgia was the team to beat. However, the momentum shifted when Ole Miss became heavily involved, emerging as the new favorite according to On3.
Despite this, Georgia has remained persistent, hosting Key for a visit to Athens on Tuesday, Dec. 17, in an effort to sway him back in their direction. It’s easy to see why Georgia values Key so highly. He put up solid numbers at Kentucky this past season, recording 47 receptions for 715 yards and two touchdowns. While his touchdown total this season is modest, Key demonstrated his scoring ability earlier in his career, hauling in 12 touchdowns during his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Although Ole Miss is still considered the frontrunner, Key’s visit to Georgia could shift the recruitment landscape. Regardless of the outcome, Kirby Smart and his staff are clearly focused on upgrading the wide receiver room and appear close to landing a transfer commitment.
