The college football transfer portal is in full swing, and the Alabama Crimson Tide is already experiencing a flurry of activity as players enter and exit the program. Alabama recently celebrated retaining tight end Danny Lewis Jr. and cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe, who had considered entering the portal. Now, the Crimson Tide can celebrate a significant addition with the transfer of former Florida defensive lineman Kelby Collins.

Collins, a former 4-star recruit from Gardendale High School in Alabama (Class of 2023), originally committed to the Florida Gators. Over two seasons, he appeared in 18 games, recording 29 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. This past season, he played in six of Florida’s first seven games but hasn’t seen action since mid-October against Kentucky.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 280 pounds, Collins brings much-needed depth to Alabama’s defensive line, which has already lost three players to the transfer portal and faces significant departures due to graduation, including Tim Keenan, Jah-Marien Latham, and Tim Smith, who have exhausted their eligibility.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, and will remain open until Thursday, Dec. 28, with a spring window set to open from April 16-25.
