Texas football adds to the defensive front with two key portal pickups from other P4 schools on Saturday

Special teams coordinator Jeff Banks and the Longhorns are focused on strengthening their punting game for next season by bringing in experienced players for more stability and consistency. On December 13, Texas secured its first portal commitment of the offseason, signing former Utah Utes All-Big 12 senior punter Jack Bouwmeester.

Bouwmeester committed to Texas during his visit to Austin on Friday.

In the past few days, the Longhorns have welcomed several portal visitors for the winter transfer window. Purdue sophomore tight end Max Klare was the first to be reported, visiting Texas on December 12. The Longhorns also hosted former Arkansas linebacker Brad Spence, Purdue senior defensive tackle Cole Brevard, and Bouwmeester in the last 24-48 hours.

Some of these visitors have already committed and signed their paperwork to join Texas after their campus visits this weekend.

The transfer portal is expected to be busy for Texas in the coming days, with the Longhorns continuing to target players at key positions to improve their roster. Here’s a look at the two defensive transfer commitments Texas secured on December 14.
